Have you ever noticed how much of our supposedly rational decision
making is really nothing more than our preferences or prejudices in search
of an excuse? We can spin some fancy tales and conjure some eloquent
arguments, but in the end most of them amount to very little. And much the
same is true of so many of our plans, prayers, and promises. Lots of
talk and little more. Worst of all we can get in the habit of believing
our own 'press releases', believing all that baloney to be true.
Moving from cheap talk to real deeds is at the heart of what Lent is
about. It starts with repenting, that is, re-thinking what's truly
important and where we ought to be investing our main energies, if we want to
call ourselves followers of Jesus. That kind of re-thinking inevitably
calls us to re-forming and re-shaping parts of our lives into a clearer
likeness of Jesus. And that in turn requires that we get to know Jesus
better -- from the inside.
God has given each one of us unique gifts for which there is a specific
need in our piece of the world.Get to know Jesus better -- on the
inside -- and he'll show you how to carry your gifts where they're
needed.Your deeds will be ever so much better than any words. And your heart will
know the delight of being a real follower of Jesus.

Step back slightly and look at what you have written: i had plenty occurring - my mom replaced into ill - i nevertheless kissed her, held her hand, confirmed affection - we basically weren't slumbering mutually all plenty for a mutually as the place replaced into your girlfriends help and know-how in this? each and every courting is going by stressful circumstances and you may desire to assist the guy who is going by issues. It did no longer look as though she replaced into doing this for you. confident you may desire to have performed each and everything you may desire to to your lady pal, yet she took it with no attention and while the going have been given difficult, she went. In all honesty, you're greater advantageous off without her, even nevertheless plenty it hurts on the 2d. sooner or later, you will meet somebody new and then comprehend what a suitable courting skill. i be responsive to you nevertheless safeguard her and problem approximately her, yet she is a grown up and has to make her very own blunders. Getting her back won't remedy something. What occurs once you have greater existence issues? Will she walk away back?

yeah it does have a deeper meaning. the easiest way to explain it is that lent (to sacrifice) allows us to experience (however small) the struggle and sacrifice of jesus in the same way as the 40 hour famine allows us to experience (if only for a weekend) what it is like to live in a third world country without food. it allows us to empathise with others.

Lent is more of a sacrificial thought, I personally do not practice Lent because I know I am unable to fulfill the request, but I am Christian, and I know God loves me the same.

It does have a deeper meaning, it's the denying of self in order to share in some small way the suffering of Christ before His crucifixion. People of the Catholic faith take it very seriously. You could practice just a bit more tact with these things dearie.

Lent does have a deeper meaning but I think that has all been lost in translation. It has become trendy in a certain sense. Alas, I've given up "Giving Up" for Lent. : |

As a muslim I fast for a month. I can not eat or drink or have relations from sun up to sun set. I feel cleaner, more centered and very peaceful during this time. It's like therapy for your soul.
I think that there used to be more intense fasting in christianity and that this may be more like fasting "lite".

It is not so much what you give up, but the act of giving up something hard to give up for the duration, that matters. It is the sacrifice that counts so that we realize the hardship, the difficulty, and the meaning of Jesus' sacrifice for us.
Giving up something for a period of time is not unique to Christians. Moslems fast or give up food during Ramadan. Judaism, Buddhism, Bahai, and almost all religious sects, if not all, have their own times of giving up (abstaining) or fasting, as a part of atonement, meditation, or proving oneself worthy of one's beliefs. The sacrifice may be in terms of not having sex, giving up meat or a favorite dish/food, not eating a meal , etc. for a prescribed length of time.

I think that some Christians choose to do it in order to feel some kind of sacrifice in honor of the sacrifice Christ made for us.
However, I'm a life-long Christian and I do not practice giving up anything for Lent. I think that Christ freed us from our sin, and that's that.
