After my laptop turns on for a while, it suddenly shuts off for no particular reason. There is no shutting down screen, the screen just goes black. Afterward, I can turn on the laptop again. Is there a way to fix the sudden shut off problem? Recently, I did take the keyboard out and put it back in. Not sure if that matters.

I don't think my laptop has a heat problem. It happened before my warranty expired; which I had Compaq replaced the motherboard. Now it is happening again. Is there a way to fix this problem without replacing the motherboard? Thanks.

most of the time this is caused by 1 of 2 things.
either your laptop is overheating, which will makes it turn off or restart then if you leave it for a while it will work fine after (usually if its overheating you can feel the laptop being hot), what you can try to do is get a can of compresed air, the blow air to the fan vents (usually the are either on the side of the laptop or on the back)
the other thing that could be causing the problem is a bad hard drive.
now these are the most common problems but it could be other things like bad motherboard.

i have the exact same problem. compaq replaced my motherboard before my warranty was over and it was ok for about a year. now im having the problem again. i know its not overheating (i downloaded a utility that shows my temp) and i have no idea what could cause this. if you get any info or have an idea for a fix let me know.

What condition is the power supply or battery in? A short can cause surge protection in the mainboard to trip.

I'm sorry to say that chances are that it is the motherboard.
