Hi,
There's a number you can call for help. I just had to do similar work on our garage door opener. I had to take my new one back to the dealer and get a different kind.

I would give the technician a call. The number should be included in the package you got from Sears.

A couple of possibilities...
1) If it is a newer opener, there are 2 different remotes; 1 has a green light when you press the button, the other has a red light. Be sure they are both the same.
2) If it is older, and the original remote has switches inside...they may have sold you a new remote, which doesn't have switches. The 2 aren't compatible.
3) You bought a faulty remote, so exchange it.

Side note: Those energy-saver bulbs (flourescent) are nice, but they and garage openers don't get along. Sometimes people screw them in the socket in the opener, then find that the remotes act up, or just don't work at all.
