It sounds like reflux. Your baby has been spitting up for five months and I am surprised your doctor did not give him meds. I'm also surprised he even stopped spitting at five months.
Although there digestive track does begin to mature around that age, maybe his was getting better and something exacerbated the spitting again.
It could be an over feed, or new illness starting or possibly just the reflux coming back.
Try keeping the baby upright after he eats for 30 minutes, this will help. Contact your doctor and let them know and have him checked if it continues

Allergy. Maybe formula. But it's defiantly an allergy to something you're feeding him. Even if you've had the baby on the same formula for a while, their little body is changing and allergies can come on later. Are you feeding him meat? I don't care if it's strained meat, if a baby doesn't have it's first four bottom teeth (the outside two are called stomach teeth) the baby isn't ready to digest meat. Does he run a fever?
On the other hand, if it's just a LITTLE spitting up, you're probably just feeding him too much, and there's not enough room in his little tummy. He takes in a little bit of air when he eats, then when he burps, the milk (or food) on top comes out with the burp.

Been there, my eldest was a severe spitter. As soon as we thought we saw the end of the tunnel he went on a growth spurt and ate/drank like crazy and started spitting all over again. He did grow out of it with no medicine or other intervention.

Is he drinking much more at one time? Is he moving more (sitting, crawling, cruising) more? Either of these could just be putting more pressure on a stomach that is prone to spitting. It should calm down soon.

Have you added any new foods to his diet? If so, his body may not be ready for it. Not a true allergy, just 'not now'. Try taking the new food(s) out and see if the spitting calms down.

And lastly - he may have learned a new and nasty trick to play on mom and dad (I hope not!). This may take you a while to teach him this is not a good thing to do.

As long as he is active, not dehydrated (wet and messy diapers), and gaining weight, just try and be patient. If you have any concerns - call his pediatrician - that is what they are there for!

Good Luck

Did you switch his formula or introduce a new food? My baby had GERD since she was born is now getting over it. Enfamil AR Lipil worked best after 2 different meds. See a doctor. Make sure baby is burped and sitting up after feeding. Wait 2-3 days before introducing new foods. Good luck!

FROM MY EXPERIENCE WITH MY OWN CHILDREN COULD BE HE IS DRINKING TO FAST. mAYBE THE HOLE IN THE NIPPLE IS TOO BIG AND THE FORMULA IS COMING OUT TO QUICKLY SO HE IS DRINKING TO QUICKLY. aLSO COULD BE HE IS ALLERGIC TO WHAT EVER FORMULA HE IS DRINKING AND IT SHOULD BE CHANGED. aNOTHER COULD BE HE IS NOT BURPING OR NOT BURPING ENOUGH BEFORE YOU CONTINUE TO FEED HIM AGAIN. iT IS VERY INPORTANT TO GET THOSE BURPS OUT BECAUSE IT IS PAINFUL TO THEM AND CAUSES OTHER PROBLEMS. gOOD LUCK
