All kinds of people from all walks of life from professionals to farmers. The remarkable thing about the Continental Army was that they were not professional soldiers yet had to fight those who were. They received some training, but they were poorly trained, prepared, and equipped. Because of the genius of George Washington and the persistence of the men, the Colonials were able to succeed in the end.
