Joking aside, I lived there for a while and the majority of the German psyche turns every game into a sheer battle. Loosing is like sports death, never to be able to play again.

I might be a little bit biased here - my ex is German - but playing games there is no fun.

That said, supporting a sport is great, where as in England we are the opposite, we try to promote good sportsmanship, but our national support of games like football has turned into war almost.

Germany's traditional sport is hunting (Deer or Pig). They still do this in the hinterland. Soccer is fairly recent (last seventy years) and Beer drinking is not a sport to the Germans, it is serious stuff.
