My 7 1/2 month old goes through bouts of constipation and has since about 3 months. There are several things you can do. You can start giving her some juice (apple, prune) that is watered down once or twice a day. Putting more fiber in her diet is good too. I have also heard that the "rice" cereal causes constipation so you may want to stick with the "oatmeal" or "barely".
If she is straining and nothing is coming out, some tricks are taking her temp anally, sometimes this gets things moving. Also there are glycerine capsuls you can buy that are for constipations (but ask your doctor first about these).
We think my sons constipation comes from dehydration, so we usually up my sons water intake, give him 3-6 ounces a day with his meals. (We don't normally give him water, just his bm). I have found that the gerber apple/prune fruit puree is good too.
And if you are bf'ing, it could be something in your diet that is causing the constipation too. So maybe eat a bit more fiber yourself. :)
From what my doc says, its nothing to worry about unless she can't pass anything. Of course it never hurts to call your doc too! All have different rememdies to try. Good Luck!

Is she in pain (crying) when she passes a stool? Are the stools really hard or just formed into little balls? If not in either case, she may just be getting a bit firm, but not full constipation yet. If either are true, then yes she has constipation.
She may be moving more and thus using up more fluids, so get her to drink more water. That is the best for constipation. If she's not to fond of water, maybe give her a but more juice (diluted with water), less binding veggies (less carrots and sweet potatoes) and more fruits for a day or two (prunes, pears, peaches).
Don't go for the pedyalite - that for when a baby can't keep food down or has sever diarrhea. Take care - you'll do fine!

The child is already 7-months old and still gets the same amount and types of food as a 4-months old? No wonder her system got so out of balance. Try to eat canned shelf-life food yourself for three years, and see what will happen to your body. By the time kids are 7 months, they are already half way off from baby food. You need to start very gradually giving her regular fruits and vegetables, not the Gerber preservatives. For this you will have some work to do, but your child's health must be more important. Buy organic carrots, apples, etc., peel them, cook them till soft only, mash them, and gradually introduce them to your child starting with a small portion only, and gradually increasing the portion from week to week, or as needed. That's what you should have down back 4 months ago. Now, because the child is not used to this kind of food at 7, it is better to do that under the doctor's supervision, because allergies and averse reactions might develop. If her doctor was in fact aware of her present diet and still didn't do anything about it, get another doctor!

Just because her stool changed does not necessarily mean she is constipated. How does she act when she is having a bowel movement? Does she strain and turn red in the face or cry? If so, she may be constipated. If so, try some pears or a little bit (less than 2 oz) of diluted prune juice. If she doesn't seem to have problems passing the stool, don't worry about it.

It sounds like she is definatly constipated. Try giving her more water and lay her down and move her legs up and down like she walking and stretching, sometimes this movement helps the bowels get moving. You can give her prune baby food and it will relieve the problem.

Please consult a pediatrician with concerns regarding the health of your child...don't leave it up to us...most of us dont' know what the h.e.l.l. we're talking about.
Opinions and similar experiences are great...but talk to a doctor before you "administer" any "treatments" that you found here.

try water first..it is natural..either boil it first or nursery water..If she doesnt take it room temperature, try cold water. then resort to pedialyte...they make those popsicles too she can suck on. but water is the best bed..juices have too much sugar in them. monitor her temperature too, make sure no fever!
