It was a book first, then made into a movie. It saw it the other day on the TV. The main character (don't know his name on the movie or in real life, sorry) was in college. It looked like he was an art student...he kept drawing pictures about death. Well, it was his birthday and he was in the tub. He was stoned and a "vision" of death came and urged him slice his wrists. He did. He survived though.

Then, he gets a call that his mom had a stroke (I think) and is in the hospital. He hitchhikes to see her. Along the way, he runs into some interesting characters....scary characters. One of them is David Arquette. In the movie, Arquette is already dead and is making the main character choose between his own life and his moms.

To me, it was a freaky movie. But it did have a good message behind it...to value life.

Any idea of what it is called? Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I meant "I saw it the other day...", not "It saw it the other day..."
