My sister is getting married at the JP tomorrow, and wants me and my husband there as witnesses. She has asked everyone she knows, but doesn't know if they are supposed to or can bring rings to the court house.

Does anyone know how this works?

Perhaps I misphrased something. They HAVE their rings, but is the judge going to give them the opportunity to present them during the ceremony?

By JP I assume you mean Justice of the Peace. Yes, you have wedding rings.

Revised per your additional details:
A non-religious marriage ceremony is very similar to a religious one. The main differences are a lack of mention of God and the profession of the person performing the ceremony. You will recite whatever vows you each decide upon (ours were non-standard and unique to each person) and you will exchange rings, traditionally held by the best man until called for.

Of course she sould bring the rings. The JP may not use the same ring exchange vows that a preacher or priest does but there is a part of the regular marriage ceremony for putting the rings on each other's fingers.

My sister was married by a JP, and her and her husband exchanged rings. I think you just have to mention it before the ceremony.

Of course you can bring rings. We got married in front of a JP in Vegas. We exchanged rings just like other people.

Of course you can bring rings to the court house. In some countries, that's the only way to have a legal and binding wedding, the religious ceremony is just a blessing.

I got married at the JP 5 years ago and we took our rings in. There should not be a problem.

sounds like astrology or superstition is taking part in a place interior the chosen date. merely be attentive to that the desirable risk for a effective marriage would not have something to do with specific dates or circumstances. It has to do with the dedication of the two people getting married. Their mutual love and appreciate, willingness to compromise, and notably to be honest to the marriage is what this is all approximately. So, in case you opt for for to get married in the process the week in a civil rite and have a church or homestead wedding ceremony on the weekend with the robe and wedding ceremony cake choose for it. What date will you have fun to your anniversary?

Bring your own rings. Courthouse doesn't have a Rings 'R' Us. JP won't care that she does. I'm sure married people walk through there all day with their rings on.

P. S. - sounds like you're worried about separation of church and state or something. There should be a standard "may I have the rings, please"
