This is what happens during a smear test.
The doctor or nurse will insert an instrument called a speculum into the v****a to allow them to see the cervix. A spatula is then wiped or scraped over the surface of the cervix to remove some cells, which are then transferred to a glass slide. The doctor or nurse may also do an internal examination to check for any problems.
Cant understand why your doctor used a needle.
Did you have a female nurse present when the doctor did it ? as it is now law that a male doctor needs to be chaperoned (so to speak) by having a female present in the room.

He would not have used a needle he may have done a swob first for clamidia as this can be routine test nowadays for young women but usually have to ask you first. It is a long stick with a cotton bud on the end so my guess if he did this before the spectrium going in this is what is was.
Normal it is spec first/swob then an internal however some do internal first then spec/swob.
Did you know that you can refuse to have it done by male doctor and insist on having a female present some male doctors forget this.
Please dont worry it may just have been a swob not a needle.
Not pleasent to have always uncomfortable even for ths old bird.

The doctor or nurse will insert an instrument called a speculum into the vagina to allow them to see the cervix. A spatula is then wiped or scraped over the surface of the cervix to remove some cells, which are then transferred to a glass slide. Dont worry i dont think it was a needle it just tends to feel like that. And it is normal for male doctors to conduct a smear although u can ask for a nurse or female doctor to do it if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

GO CALL THE OFFICE NOW.

Even better yet, find a local medical organization (even if the only thing you can find is the hospital) and ask THEM about the procedures. I assist with paps at work, and there is no needle used. The only time they would use a needle is for a biopsy. The only time they would be allowed to use that would be a) you booked an appointment SPECIFICALLY for that procedure b) with your written consent. This doctor is someone you should be worried about, as even if he did do everything correctly and he was doing his job, you have to have a female in the room during the examination AND the doctor is supposed to explain the procedure as it is occuring.

Ask the nurse if you can see what she's using next time! You should know what they are sticking in you! It's called a speculum, and it's a metal device which holds the vaginal entrance open so they can see the cervix. They then take a 'scrape' of cells with a long stemmed cotton bud, which they 'smear' onto a slide for inspection. It shouldn't hurt, although it may be uncomfortable.

A smear does not use a needle. The vagina is opened up with a speculum (its opens the entrance and allows the doctor to see the cervix), and then a wooden or plastic scraper is put into the vagina and used to scrape cells off the cervix. They are uncomfortable but over very quickly.

They do not usually use a needle to do a pap smear, call the clinic where you were and ask them why a needle was used. They should have only used a flat piece of plastic to scrape the cervix and/or a brush to swipe the cervix. Good Luck

It's not a needle - it's a little brush, like a mascara brush, that grabs some of the cells from your cervix so that they can smear the cells on a glass slide and view them under a microscope to check for any abnormal cells.

It was probably a swab which is long and thin and may look like a needle. They typically swab for abnormal cervical cells and if your less then 25 they also must test for STD's in the Army per the regs.

I never had a smear test with a needle, they use a small spatular thingy to take cells not a needle. I would contact the surgery for more information
