"In the Peace Corps I used to spend time with a number of Cuban doctors. They do a great service and in fact in Latin America Cuba has the highest percentage of people who are literate and far and above the best health care than the rest of the world.
Would you call Canada communist? Great Britain, any of the of the other industrialized nations of the world because THEY ALL HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE and they are all republics or democracies."
Nothing like denying reality. Did you even open the darn link?

"Anyone who has a problem with present day Cuba should investigate what it was like BEFORE the revolution. 98% of the population living in abject poverty, while the 2% holding all the wealth played naughty with American organized crime. There's always at least two sides to the story, isn't there?

Yeah, Cuba is a real success story. Maybe some day I can dry the tears in my eyes after I stop laughing so hard at that one.

It ruins the medical establishment and bankrupts every government in every country that has tried it.

The US Comptoller(US accountant) just spoke about healthcare being a part of the bankruptcy of America. We spend the most NOW yet our longevity is the lowest of any industrialized country. We have the very best healthcare available to a few, yet many get no healthcare. I just read an article about a 52 yr old woman making $60,000 a year who had cancer(survived) and now has no insurance-it would cost her $26,000 a year. That's not right.
The decison for many middle class Americans is to die....
Some miss the point. If we all had access, we wouldn't be going the emergency room. There was recently a 12 yr old boy that died of a brain infection here in the US-that had spread from a tooth! That sounds more like a third world country than the US. aren't we ashamed?

I think universal health care is a good idea. Because people
without health insurance can't be turned down by our hospitals,
alot of our hospitals are in a financial crisis. Especially the
emergency rooms.
When this happens, the first thing hospitals cut are the employees. One nurse assigned to too many patients is
dangerous to her & to her patients.
If the cost of universal health care is a concern, take a look at
the pork barrel spending being done by politicians for their
pet projects - usually hidden in another, more practical bill.
For instance, a billion dollar bridge for 50 people living in
Alaska is ridiculous. There are many examples like this,
where the money could be spent more wisely for the
health of Americans.

Yes, I think it's a wonderful idea. And, why not move... Well, first of all, immigrating to any of those countries require a bit of paperwork. Then there's the fact that we don't want to leave our jobs. Our children enjoy their friends here.
We have great health insurance through our jobs, but I still feel decent healthcare should be available for all Americans AND I am more than willing to pay more taxes to help my fellow Americans. I think it's a shame that we are the richest country on earth and cannot take care of our own poor.

America HAS universal healthcare. No one can be turned away if they can't pay. That's why emergency rooms in border states are closing.
Universal health INSURANCE is another matter. Obviously if people had coverage they could take better care of themselves so it does not become an emergency.
I do not think nationalized healthcare is a good idea at all.
PS Do other countries have the large jury verdicts we have? Contingency fees? No "loser pays" rule? That may be a large part of the problem.

Have you seen what US veterans are going through with their Universal health care system/VA hospitals? Well just take that picture and multiply it by a million and that's what a US Universal Health care system would look like.

Anyone who wants universal health care coverage should really talk to someone who's been to a VA hospital.
