I went to my doctors this afternoon due to having a breast leak over the weekend... she is saying this could be a symptom of PCOS (since I am also insulin resistant). I've just never heard of that being a symptom of PCOS (a breast leaking - though so far it was only that one time)... anyone know more?

I've heard of this happening with women with PCOS, although it's not super common. If it is related to high levels of estrogen (like one person said) then it makes perfect sense. Women with PCOS tend to have higher or normal levels of estrogen (not low like that person said). I wouldn't worry too much about it if it was that one time. Good luck.

What are the symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?
These are some of the symptoms of PCOS:

infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding
infertility or inability to get pregnant because of not ovulating
increased growth of hair on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes
acne, oily skin, or dandruff
pelvic pain
weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist
type 2 diabetes
high cholesterol
high blood pressure
male-pattern baldness or thinning hair
patches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighs
skin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area
sleep apnea―excessive snoring and breathing stops at times while asleep

Leakage from Both Breasts
If fluid is leaking from both breasts, chances are good that a hidden condition is affecting the whole body in a systemic way. This may be an endocrine problem. Another possibility is that some sort of medication could be the culprit. Many different kinds of your garden-variety prescription drugs, including Prozac and birth control pills, are known to mess with the breasts. When both breasts leak, it might be a good idea to pay attention to any other symptoms that may seem unrelated, as they may all be caused by the same thing.

Leakage from One Breast
When the fluid comes from just one breast, it is much more likely that the cause is localized to just that breast. Discharge from the nipple may be a sign of any one of numerous problems ranging from breast trauma to cancer.

It is just one symptom of PCOS but there are many other symptoms as well including: irregular periods, oily skin with severe acne, and excessive hair growth on face and body. In order to conclusively diagnose PCOS, you should have some blood work to check hormone levels. Your primary doctor or Ob-gyn can order these tests. However, an endocrinologist is the specialist who can best treat it if you indeed have PCOS. Furthermore, an endocrinologist can treat the insulin disorder you've described. Take care.

if it's straw colored. Not a big deal. If it's bloody then you need an eval for cancer. Doubt relation to PCOS as this would typically occur with high estrogrom and PCOS is low.
