I'm planning a trip to Cuba in the next year and am working on planning accommodations. I'm looking at taking a tent and sleeping in it a good deal of the nights. Are there a good number of campgrounds in Cuba? About how much would a night at a campground cost? Are they safe? Do the locals mind camping(I've heard they're offended if you shun casas particulaires...)?

you can stay in areas called "campismos" but you are not allowed to pin a tent to the ground in Cuba. I included a link to a very good site that has some of the campismo sites listed.

Well if you are a US citizen, you can stop thinking about it and start planning somewhere else. It's illegal for US citizens to visit Cuba.

That being said, Cuba isn't a "tent" type of country. There are no campgrounds as you think of, and you would not be safe nor welcome camping.
