Wouldn't you call that sexual preference and not a valid platform for a party on the foundation of sinking sand?

Not sure what your question was, but there are, of course, Gay Republicans. It is possible for a gay to be commited to a platform of physcal conservatism, limited government, national sovereignty over global communualism, isolationism, and judiscious use of the military, but in an overwhelming use of it when it must be used.
Now if only we could find someone to run on the Republican platform, I'd be happy. I don't care if he was a green gay guy dieing of Aids and fungus infection of the eye, if he'd actually carry out the Republican platform, I'd vote for him.

Yes, there are many gay Republicans. Jonathan and I (and note, I was brought up Republican) do not stay in the same building with a meeting of the Log Cabin -- however, we disagree with the Right for many reasons, and homosexuality is the least of them.

"Gay Republican" has always seemed to be an oxymoronic phrase to me, since that party has been fervently behind some of the most bigoted rights abuses against LGBT people.
However, you have used the wrong term - LGBT people and straight people have a different sexual orientation. There is no choice or "preference" involved.

I don't agree--- the entire party's platform appears to be based on who to triangulate feelings of fear, failure, etc. onto. We gay people make the perfect whipping boy for them. I have as much sympathy for a gay rebulican as I do for a Jewish Nazi.
