Both the Federal Government and the State *should* reject the return and send it back. Better to be safe than sorry, and resubmit the returns in the correct envelope.

FYI: This is why electronic filing is often the best option. No chance of the wrong return going there, its also faster. There are a variety of ways to file, including, filing for free if you qualify. See: www.irs.gov for more information.
