Please could anyone tell me the national curriculum requirements for the following?
Physical education is there a minimum amount of time per week at key stage 1. (6 and 7 year olds)
Reading is there a guideline at the same age for the amount of time spent on reading in any week. in England

I think the minimum for PE is 2 hours a week at KS1, although I'm not sure if this is fully in place yet.

For reading there is no minimum and schools simply don't have time to fit it in to the curriculum. (I know it seems ridiculous!) As a trainee teacher I've never been told of any guidline amount of time for it and although there is supposed to be guided reading done in the literacy hour this is not compulsary and depends on the individual school's policy.

There's loads of advice but it is up to schools to make professional decisions about the needs of the children. Different groups of children will need curriculum allocations matched to their needs.
If you are a teacher, you should be talking with your colleagues, if you are a parent you should be talking with your child's teacher, if you are a student, your college should be giving you guidance.
