i believe in the true sense of colonization, you will probably find that France and Britain were about equal at the height of their colonization eras.

they had a bit of an "arms race" type competition in trying to see who could control more of the world from their thrones via colonization.

France probably actually had more because they made more in-roads in Africa prior to the curbing of the "official" colonization practices.
