The third pick...Well since Pujols and Santana should be the first two people selected, that leaves you with three candidates for the third pick: Ryan Howard, Alfonso Soriano, and Jose Reyes. Now, in my recent draft, my friend selected Ryan Howard in slot # 3 and I grabbed Soriano in slot #4. (#5 was Reyes) Now, this does not mean that you should select Howard. If you have a gut feeling on one of the three you should go with it. If i was in the 3rd slot, i would not take Reyes because he has not been proven as well as Howard and Soriano. Now, Howard or Soriano. Most people in this situation will grab Howard, but i have a gut feeling that Soriano will be the better player. Now, i would probably select Howard in the 3rd slot so i could trade him away for 2 players of great calibur, or i would just take Soriano. It's up to you and the type of statistics being used. For instance, if you have stats such as HR, RBI, R and SLG% Howard would be the better choice, but if you had SB, AVG, and H, Soriano might be the player of your choosing. Now during the draft, make sure you fill all of the positions nicely. For instance, do not take Brad Lidge over Brad Penny in the 17th round if you already have 3 RP and no SP. Ahh...the perfect trade. When you come across a trade that you feel like the other guy is an absolute moron for accepting it, you know that you struck gold. Now, do not sweat it out, fantasy baseball has a much easier draft then football, so good luck to you!

Check out as many mock drafts as you can. See how other people have built their teams. It is about building a team and filling each position with the purpose of helping in specific categories. In the early rounds you are looking for guys that help with the most categories and understanding what those are. Soriano is a good 3 pick, he helps with HR's, Runs, RBI's and SB's. His avg is a little low at times so you will now have to counter that with someone like Vlad Guerero. But now that you have some help in those area's you know where you will need help. Then it's a matter of keeping track of what each person brings to your team. You should know or have an understanding of what the value of each player is - or why they are valueable in fantasy, like knowing that Dave Robert's only value is stolen bases and knowing when and why you have to look at him as a draft option.

Check out some of these Mock drafts and see how the number 3 spot built a team. Or if you choose a different player in your first round, look at how the person who chose him built a team around their pick.

Use your previous draft to see the value of all the players. If you are using a service that shows the average draft position players, don't take a player too early compared to the average. When making trades, look at the round the players were drafted. Trade 1st round talent for 1st round talent. Or Trade a 2nd round and 3rd round players to get a 1st round player. Just think of the players as stocks. Some stocks consistently perform and therefore are valued higher than other stocks. If you can apply a value to the players, it makes it a whole lot easier.

I subscribe to the Sports Weekly (published by USA Today). It comes out one a week, and they always have a couple of pages of advice on Fantasy Baseball. Plus, it's a good way to keep up with players. Some convenience stores sell it right near the USA Today.

Just try and pick proven players, don't go by just last year. Exp: although Howard won the MVP last year as a rookie, doesn't mean he will be great the rest of his career. Look atleast the 06' and 05' seasons.

I know i'm a chick, but I play with my bro. Anyways, I'd go for Ichiro, Rollins, or Tejada. Try to get Helton, Zito, and Schmidt late in the draft.
