Too bad for them. Maybe you don't want them to be what they are. They probably didn't ask your opinion. My only advice, when you are a cop - shoot to kill, otherwise they might sue you or something.

You have a few years before you can become anything...so maybe itis a good time to lay low on the subject with both sides of the family. One thing you will learn as an officer is how to pick your battles. In a few years you will be in the position to go to college (which I am sure they all agree on) and decide your course then. If your Mom's side of the family still disagrees, give them the respect to listen to their concerns (there are worse things in life then being loved and cared about) and then choose your path as a stable grown man. At that point you will no longer need to seek their permission and can manage without their approval. None of our parents ever approve of everything we do. I am a grandmother and am still putting up with it,..but I choose my battles and have caller ID. Good luck

Let them know how you feel. Parents are always protective of children. If you really want to be a police officer then that's what you will be even if your mom does not like it. Once you are grown and can make your own decisions she may voice her op but she can't make you quit.

It is your life and your choice. At 16, it may seem that your mom has some say in what you do, but really she doesn't (as you get older you will really understand this). Also, you may feel you have to make her happy, but you really don't. The only person you have to make happy in your life is yourself. Also, the only person you can TRULY make happy in your life is yourself.
Read Scott Peck's book, The Road Less Travelled.

Wait a while until you reach the time for your decision!
Then ask yourself this question: "Do I still want to be a cop?"
If No => Find something else you want to be
If Yes => Follow your dreams! Be a cop!

Do what you want ... whether they hate it or not its your life... And if they truly love you they will realize this is what you really want and will learn to cope if not then I feel sorry for them. No, one should be told what they can and can't achieve in life... You are who you are whether they want it or not. No matter what job you do there is danger. You don't even have to have a job and be in serious danger. Your doing something to better yourself and the community by doing what you love.

You do what you want to do. Don't let others influence you negatively in your career decision. Once you are 18 your mother, etc. will not have any say in it anyway. And at least you have some supprot in your decision.

Your family does not have to agree with your decision, they just have to respect your decision. It is your life..do what makes you happy. There's nothing wrong with following in your father's footsteps. What you do with your life is entirely up to you.
