I want to buy a B&W laser printer for home use. I've been suggested to buy Canon LBP2900 but others say that the quality of HP prinetrs is better. Whay do you think? Can you give me other suggestions to buy a laser printer? How about a colored inkjet printer for home use?

I'd go with the HP.

The color laser printer cartridges are pretty pricey and don't have a very high page yield. You need to ask yourself if you intend to print a lot of color documents. If not, the additional cost might not be worth it.

FYI, Remanufactured toner cartridges for HP printers are widely available and can save you tons of money in the long term.

I have an all in one Brother fax, printer, copier that works great and it was cheap to buy as well. Toner is still pretty expensive but the remanufactured cartridges are becoming available now.

I'd recommend that you stay away from class 2 or "refilled" cartridges though. Make sure you get "remanufactured" class one cartridges. They usually carry a great warranty and cost just a little more than cheap class two's but they're still way cheaper than new OEM toner. If you shop online, you can save even more money over buying at Staples.

HP all the way. PC Magazine has rated HP the Reader's Choice award for the past 15 years in a row in the reliability category. If you have ever walked into a business, you will see HP printers 90% of the time. Hp is simply the best.

For your B&W laser printer, go for either the laserjet 1018 or the 1020. Go for the 1022 if you do gobs and gobs of printing.

For home use, I own the HP Photosmart C5180. It's a $200 printer, but it does awesome photos and it prints, copy, and scans. Ink is cheap for it. $36 for a set of ink and photo paper that will print 150 photos. This printer has great ratings all over the internet.

HP's are far above and beyond anything Canon puts out. I've worked on both for many years and can tell you with the utmost confidence that HP is the one. Grab an HP laser IE: HP LJ1020 ($179) or something like that. They cost a little bit more, but the quality is superior.
Need color: HP LJ1600 $299
While you are deciding, check out what the toners cartridges cost and how much they can print before replacment.

I used to be a HP persona (up until yesterday). I have had lots of HP printers over the years (inkjet and laser) and have loved them. Yesterday one of my HP all-in-one inkjets failed after 4 years - no big deal, buy another new one. After 24 hours of messing around and returning 2 units I have finally gone to Canon. It took 25 mins to install and no problems whatsoever.
Researching the user reviews (not the magazine reviews) i found out, too late, that HP come across great in the mags but the user reviews stink. The problem appears to be the new software (or bloatware as people now call it) as opposed to the printers themselves. I'd go with Canon for inkjet, or Samsung for the laser which I have also installed 3 months ago without a single problem. Stay away from the new HPs with the bloatware

Owner of a cartridge store told me Canon makes HP printers. I couldn't believe it but yep did my research and it's true. Just like L'Oréal Corporation makes Maybelline, Lancôme, Garnier, expensive Matrix hair care and other companies that you had no idea. Just Google it. I had a Canon AE-1 Camera back in 1978. Best camera ever. It is what it is. Like Whirlpool makes Maytag, Amana and Hotpoint.

I actual have by no potential had a situation with HP printers, different than for drivers (although the recent motive force for snow leopard got here lots swifter then for vista!) Canon is likewise a sturdy make, yet i've got by no potential tried one. in my view i might flow with the HP printer, although i'm uncertain how lots distinction there is between a photosmart and deskjet variations.

I have always used the HP printer for as long as I can remember. I feel that the HP is better.
