I know the local tribes around where I live do not object or find offence in local teams using the mascots. I want to know more about those who do. What tribes are they a part of? What is the nature of the objections?

I don't know about any Indians, but there are plenty of Native Americans.

Your question itself shows how insensitive you are. First of all, the population of Indigenous Americans is not that large due to the history of genocide, oppression, and ghettoization (most "reservations " have about as much economic opportunity as a death camp). At any rate, people are not mascots! How can you have bears, lions, and other animals on the same level as people (from a living culture unlike "Vikings" and "Buccaneers") to act as symbols for teams? The "Fighting Illini" had a non-native man dressed up and dancing like a fool at games. That is insulting whether the "Indians" you say you know feel that way or not.

Well didn't you hear about one of their high schools having a white american as a mascot?

Putting myself in their shoes, I really don't know if that would bother me?

the real question is if there is even enough of them left to argue it. it is hard to find a 100% native america (at least in nyc) and people have protested sports names like ,indians, chiefs, braves, redskins.
