Health care is better in some other countries (NOT Canada -- just ask a Canadian and they'll tell you) but in those countries the citizens pay two to three times more to the government in income tax than we do. How would you like to be in the 50% tax bracket (which is the highest tax bracket in the U.S.) if you're only making $30,000.00 a year? Think about that: Not much at all to live on, and the government takes half. Is a Federal Health Care System worth that? Not by a longshot.

I recently worked with a physician who had a patient from canada. The man had moved here for various reasons but mainly to get the healthcare he needed. He told this physician that he had been on a waiting list for nearly two years to get a routine mri for migraines and back pain. The healthcare may be reduced or even free in other countries but it's definitely not what I would consider "better". You see stories all the time about american physicians going to other countries to do free/reduced surgeries because those resources are not available. Or stories about people coming to America to get surgeries done. I don't think the financial aspect is a good judge of quality.

You have a sick care system not a health care system. All the entities involved in it make more money if you are sick . The hospitals don't make any money by promoting those behaviors which keep people healthy. The pharmaceutical companies don't make any money if you are too healthy to need medications. Your doctor doesn't make money if, like my grandfather, you never go to the Dr. never had any tests and died at home at 82. The hospitals and nursing homes don't make any money if you are healthy until you die naturally at home. Just think how much money they would lose if we changed to a real health care system and really became a healthy population.

It is FREE in many countries, but not BETTER. People in those nations who are dependent on free gov't healthcare often have to wait months/years for their procedures. (They are heavily taxed and many are unemployed as well). Only the few rich can get served immediately---and where do you think they come???? That's right...right here in the USA where the BEST doctors and hospitals in the world are.

Except for the fact that other countries send their leaders to the US for medical treatment.
Oh, it's so bad here. That and you never know what you are getting if you go overseas. Doctors have to play by very strict rules here, not so much overseas...
