Industrialization caused large shifts in the population from rural areas to urban areas. Conditions in general were bleak for workers and especially for women and children. Children had little protection and worked long hours for little pay with poor working conditions.

This is an online story book that gives an informative and enjoyable account of a labor strike for wages and
decent working conditions that took place in Lawrence
Massachussets in 1912.
