...and save our economy?? The Government is creating the NAFTA superhighway, which isn't going to lead to anything good.

what is happening is companies see a cheap employment source in giving the customer service jobs to people over seas. They work for $2 an hour were as we Americans will not take no less then $7. That is why you get India on the line or Mexico when trying to resolve a complaint or issue. I get tired of it also especially when I can not understand a word they are saying to me because they speak English, but not American English, and accents get in the way.
We have to write our congress men/women. Call the people in the house of Representatives, those which are supposed to work for us. Let them know that we do not like the way they are voting, and giving our jobs away.
If we become a poor nation, if we can not pay our taxes, then their jobs are in jeopardy. The gap between the have and have nots is growing anyway. There soon will be no Middle Class. One will either be rich or poor. So something does need to be done. I agree.

Outsourcing is not stoppable because of the cost of labor advantages in other nations, and the lack of American workers willing to do those lower skill assembly line now. Outsourcing in the long run is the good for the economy because it frees up workers to specialize in more productive jobs. Still, the safety net is weak in regards to outsourcing that could create a problem with populist policitans demanding tariffs on consumer goods. Still, open trade makes all better off and NAFTA is a good thing in the long run. Because trade brings economies of scale to more goods, and lower prices bring an increase in purchasing power for the worker. China in my opinion if they didn't produce goods below production cost then it would benefit it us more. Still, I'm a realist here and now clamping the noose on China is probably not gonna do much now like it would 10 years ago. Integration with Latin America should be Untied States long term goal economically because it will provide America the workers needed when the Baby Boomers start to retire out of the workforce. The Superhighway for NAFTA is not needed as much as upgraded railroad lines, power lines, and more road connections instead of one big road.

you need to read some of the posts on globalization. Outsourcing is really an element of globalization. it cant be stopped, in many ways it has been happening for centuries. For example when england shifted resource aquisition to India during the colonial era, it was really a form of outsourcing, because the government (and companies) realised that India had a wealth of natural resources and abundant cheap labor to extract such resources, and that the English were better suited (had a competitive advantage) in the actual production of the goods made from the natural resources.

the exact same thing is happening today, except on a larger scale. technology: communications and transportation, have made it easier to produce things abroad. this has shifted the costs, making it cheaper to produce some products abroad. The only thing you can do to stop this process is to fight it by instituting protectionsit policies. economically protectionism is a VERY bad thing for everyone involved. Statistics/economics has shown that it is better fot this "creative destruction" to occur and allow new competitive advantages to form, then to fight it with protectionsim that ultimately impoverishes people though a decrease in choice and higher prices, lower quality.

A final comment: Look at what is being exported from america. its not specialized, education intensive jobs. its routine service type jobs (like call service, tech support) and manufacturing. Some of those jobs will go, they have to, those that can still be profitable and compete will remain, and new jobs will be created in other sectors of the economy. Dont believe me? Look at GDP growth, education level growth, etc in the US economy, they are all going up despite the fact that globalization has been occuring for well over 100 years. Globalization is not a new phenomena, nor is it a negative one.
Some people say that outsourcing is a race to the bottom, but they miss a cruicial point. As countries like China get wealthier from the business we do with them, the level of wealth in their country rises, as they become a wealthier nation they also become consumers of our products. A perfect example is japan. A ruined state only 60 years ago, it is now one of our biggest markets and holds the largest percentage of US government debt. We made them wealthier, they in turn have made us wealthier, economics is not a zero sum game, dnt forget that when you read about globalization.

Unless we suddenly stop being global, jobs will continue to gravitate toward areas where the pay and benefits packages most benefits the employer/manufacturer.
The bad news: the US is making fewer actual products/commodities (oh, yeah, and don't get me started on unions!!).
The good news:the US still has the best pool of entrepeneurs and problem solvers in the world. It's services that we sell now, not actual labor.

I don't think there is anything we can do, unless you become President (lol) The reason why the government is outsourcing is because other countries are willing to do more work to receive pay for their families, what may be petty change to us may be worth alot more to them. And also, they simply produce more of our products that we use and America profit by selling them for more.
