Halloween (the first one) is the only one I can think of at the moment that really creeped me out, with the possible exception of The Amityville Horror...but, like you, I'm also open to suggestions. So many movies are trying to be scary but just end up funny!
Hmmm...I wasn't scared by The Exorcist AT ALL. Seemed very cartoonish to me.

Besides the "classic" scary movies (i.e. The Exorcist, The Shining...), I would suggest Stephen King movies. All of them scare the hell out of me...then again, I'm just a "fraidy cat".

Frank Hennelotter makes some real weird horror films. wow! Basket Case is about a mutant twin whose brother carries him around in a basket as they search for the veteranarian who seperated them. it's really gross! Then there's Frankenhooker, about the man who digs up dead movie stars and peices them together and re-animates them. Unfortunately they can say only one thing: Wanna date? It's so horrorific. OMG. then there's his masterpeice, Brain Damage. it's the story of a creature who lives inside of peoples spines and gives them a hallucinatory psychadelic high (before they die). the creature thing is horrible!

I work in a video store and love to check out the more obscure movies that are out there. "Close Your Eyes" (aka "Dr. Sleep") http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286594/ is rather disturbing, to say the least. Also, "Exorcist 3" was just plain freaky!

The Exorcist (the original one, from the 1970's)... by far, the scariest movie EVER!!
The Ring was pretty freakin' scary too.

I think that "House On Haunted Hill" is pretty interesting. . .It might not have the chill factor, but it has quite a story. The same for "Hide and Seek."
