You need to connect your pc to the router using the LAN cable. One should be provided in the box the router came in. Power up your router and connect as per your instruction/setup guide.

Open a browser window and type in the address for the router. This is in ip format eg. http://192.168.0.1 is common but check with your manual.

When your browser has loaded the screen for the router there should be an option to run a wizard. Modern routers use an autodetect method which usually works. If not then there will be instructions on how to configure manually.

The router should be able to discover all your settings but will require the sign on and password provided to you by your ISP.

Good luck

Most home routers are also modems, either cable modem or DSL modem. Unless you have an actual Router like a Cisco router or other brand used for Frame Relay circuits. Then you would need a frame relay circuit to connect. If you have cable, you can connect your router to the cable coax, and then connect your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable with an RJ 45 connector at each end. You can buy these pre-made in different lengths. If you have a DSL router, then you need to connect it to a phone line supplied by your DSL service provider, and will probably need to add filters to your phone lines. Then connect the laptop to the router, again using an ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors at each end. I hope that helps!

The router should of had cords and instructions to hook up to your computers MODEM. Then it probably came with some kind of cd. HP Pavillions are like desktop computers. Not Laptops. Laptops need broadband cards and WiFi or BlueTooth access. Places like sprint or the WiFi website sell cards.

make sure your laptop has a wireless modem and that your router is a wireless router.

after that, contact the manufacturer of the router.
