and i know there is oil in the engine any thing i can check myself before i booking in to a garage

you need to investigate the cause of this. how long ago was the engine oil changed? could the oil filter be partialy blocked? is the oil pressure low? you need to establish what is causing the warning light to flash.

just open the bonet and if this has only just started to happen then you probly have a lose connection take a good long look at wires and were you have conneters check . and look foor wires that arnt connected . failing that cover the flashing light with black tape and check your oil weekly untill its due a survice .
