It was an old anime cartoon. A girl with a star-shaped gem in her forehead...takes place in space...a guy in a rocket... that's all I remember....it came on just before the koala cartoons.

could it be Moon Dreamers? one of the girl characters had a star on her headband and the boy character flew around on a comet...and it pretty much did take place in space.
as for coming on just before koala cartoons, i don't really remember.

Sounds like Robotech, but it could be a number of cartoons if it was in the 80's.

Just to be clear. IT IS NOT ROBOTECH. As someone who has all the Robotech shows on DVD I would remember something like that.
