I asked this in marriage and divorce but I have a feeling the answers will multiply here.

Why do we call husbands hubby instead of hussy?

"Hussy" is an alteration of the Middle English term "huswif" meaning housewife. "Hubby" is a diminutive of Husband. I understand why you'd ask the question, the true answer is simply..because we don't.
