I just had my daughter's ears pierced on Valentine's Day...she just turned 6 months old. We had it done at Claires at the mall, they did them both at the same time and it went flawlessly. She cried for about 30 seconds (literally) and then she forgot all about it. It was the equivalent of her getting shots at the doctor's office. It only cost about $35 and we got the most expensive earrings (24K gold) to ensure she wouldn't have an allergic reaction. They use special guns that don't use a needle, they pierce with the earring itself which they open from a sterile bag right in front of you. We have to clean them twice a day and they can't be removed for 6 six weeks. After 6 weeks they can be changed but you need to keep some type of earring for a year to keep the hole from closing. Our little girl doesn't bother them at all and I clean them while she's having a bottle so she doesn't squirm. It's been great, and everyone complements her on them :)

My niece's ears were pierced at a proffesional tatoo/piercing shop. It sounds bad, but it is actually cleaner than a hospital. My sister made sure they had a permit and then they pierced my niece. She never got an infection and the guy that did it, was super gentle and great with babies. My niece didnt even cry because she was laughing with the guy. I went to get my ear pierced there too, and the guy was great, I did not get any type of problems with him. The place is called "Piercings and Tattoos Galore".....I actually got a tattoo there too and it was very sanitary. The place is located in Miami Beach. If you are not in that area, I am sure that if you look for a nice and clean tattoo shop, they will pierce your baby's ears.
Edit :
My niece got them pierced at 6 months.

The majority of people consider the 16yr old at the mall a "professional". My suggestion would be to have the clerk test run the gun, to make sure that it works properly. I've had a gun break on my and they thought it was the earing. They shot it and it went half way through, then the switched earrings and tried again. Hurt like hell! Needless to say, i didn't go back. It's the care afterward that makes the difference. You MUST clean it regularly. Good luck!!!

You can probably find a decent person at the mall. Not all of them are 16. As long as you get decent studs and everything is disinfected then you should be fine. There is a piercing store right by my house that I have had a couple of things done at but I don't know where you live if they have a store like that.

I've seen lots of babies with their ears pierced. I got mine done when I was 4. My grandparents took me. In my opinion, you should just wait until they are old enough to say when they want them done. When I got mine done it was a little traumatic. I remember trying so hard to be a big girl and not cry. It was so hard. It might not be a big deal for an adult to get a piercing, but little kids are more tender and it hurts a lot. I just wouldn't want to put my kid through any pain that I don't have to.

I was 6 years old when I got mine done. I think you should wait until your daughter asks to get them, then make sure she understands about cleaning them, taking care of them, etc. Also make sure she knows that it's going to hurt. Everyone told me when I was 6 that it didn't hurt, so I was expecting it to be completely pain free, which I think just made it hurt more. I don't think having your baby's ears pierced is a very good idea. If you decide to go for it, don't get gold. Lots of people, myself included, have a sensitivity to gold. I can only use sterling silver or titanium.

We waited until my daughter asked for them. She asked at about 3, we told her it would hurt, she said she didn't want to, then at 5 she wanted to again. They did not do them at the same time and she got both done and didn't cry one bit.
Since it is a baby, go to a place that does both ears at once. My friends took all three of their babies to the mall at about two months.

I got my daughters done at Merle Norman when she was 6 months. Make sure wherever you go they do both ears at once. Go with your gut if you don't feel comfortable with the person doing it go somewhere else. Call around and ask places if they do babies. Make sure you also get good earrings you don't want an infection. As far as having it done it was not that bad, my daughter cried but buy the time we walked to the car she was fine and she looked so cute with them!

When I was little, my mom took me to the JC Penneys salon to get my ears pierced. I think as long as you are comfortable with the person doing the piercing and you feel the tools/environment are sterile, then everything should be ok. Good luck!
