Yes, you can write to inmates. My second husband is doing "LIFE" in a California prison, for a "Bank-Robbery" and our daughter & I write to him, to lift him up!! His spirits anyway.. He was arrested under the 3-strike law, and is in the law books, for being the first inmate arrested in California, under that new/old law!! Amazing, hoh?!! But, nothing to brag about.. You wont get into trouble for writing to him, hun......those prison guards have much more to worry about then, their mail, trust me, on this!!! Your just fine, and it would be very nice of you to do so.. alot of them dont get any mail, from anyone... Its kind of sad.. So, I would go ahead and send him some letters.. They wont be watching you for writing to him, or anything like that, at all, okay.. You'll be just fine.. Smile!!

People are allowed to write to inmates, you just have to call the prison and get it cleared. There are a few precautionary methods taken by the prison, such as opening and pre-reading inmates mail and packages.
But I would definately take measures to protect yourself. Even if you're just writing words of encouragement, you never know what someone is possible of doing. If you expect or want a letter back, consider getting a PO Box in a neighboring town and not using your real name. If you want this to be a one time thing then I wouldn't even put a return address on the letter.

People write to inmates all the time, so yes it is allowed. Where trouble can come in is with the inmate himself. Many are manipulative, dangerous people. If you are going to do it anyway, be careful with what personal information you give him.

Surely you can write to him. Just call the jail or prison he is in get his prisoner number and write. He would probably love the chance to correspond with someone. I have heard in jail some in mates never get any mail at all. It would probably be nice for him to receive some. But beware some times they just write anything they think you would want to hear so they can scam you so be careful.

Yes, honey, you can write to an inmate. It's legal. Call the prison he is located within, and receive info on how to mail him, or wait until he writes you so you can have the return address.

You can write them, but I would watch what you say, because eventually they will be out.
You don't want them hunting you down.

In most cases, Yes. It is more than probable your letter will be pre-read.
