Well, I remember (way back when) on my first job..I was so nervous! I thought I was going to make the biggest fool out of myself, and you know what? I probably did, but it was worth it! People usually don't look at you like your stupid when you are starting a job because most of them have been in that situation! During an interview the questions are easy, like how old are you, do you live around here, transportation issues etc. Try practicing in front of your mirror giving a good firm hand shake, eye contact and flash that beautiful smile I bet you have! It's all about believing in yourself! The first one might be a little nerve wracking but it gets easier and easier once you know what to expect! It's a wonderful experience to make your own money and meet people you wouldn't already know!

Since this will be your first job, I'm sure your employer isn't expecting you to be perfect. They realize that you are inexperienced and will probably make some mistakes. That's why most jobs start off with a training period to get you comfortable. I also hate job interviews, not because of shyness but because I hate being scrutinized and judged. Nevertheless, I always find that I am more relaxed and presentable at an interview if I rehearse a little first. You'll probably be asked to say a little about yourself and why you are interested and suited for the job. I rehearse answering these types of questions in my head or maybe in front of a mirror. In the interview, be sure to smile, sit up straight, make eye contact and use a moderate amount hand gestures. These things help you appear more capable and confident. And don't worry too much because interviews for places that regularly hire first time workers are usually a piece of cake. At such a place, there will usually be plenty of other people who are trying to adjust to a new job so you won't be out of place.

my son is 16 and going for a job interview today so I will tell you what I tell him....

for interviews be prepared as you can be...

if you can find out something about the company then do so.. have a bit of background knowledge...

use your very best manners at all times...

smile a lot... smiles break down a lot of barriers and make you look confident even when you arent feeling confident...

if you dont know the answer to a question say you dont know... there is no shame in not knowing... everyone remembers the time before they knew what they know today... so dont worry..

look people in the eye when you are speaking to them and always be first to offer your hand in a handshake.... even if you are a girl/woman...... handshakes place you on an equal par with the person you are greeting...

read your resume and remind yourself how good you are before contacting employers, before interviews and often throughout the week while looking for work... know your strengths and weaknesses.... know what you can offer a company..

role play interviews with anyone you can rope into acting the part... if no one is available then research the internet and find lists of possible questions that employers may ask at interviews and prepare both on paper and in your mind what your answer would be....

every employer had a first interview.... a first job... a first case of nerves... a first mistake... so you arent going to experience anything that person interviewing you hasn't experienced...

there is a vast difference between feeling stupid and being stupid..... everyone feels stupid about something... but that does not mean you are stupid...

When you start a new job listen a lot and speak when you have a well thought out question to ask..... anything you dont know simply ask..... you will find that the majority of people in the work force are more than willing to help out newbies who are trying to do the right thing...

Best of Luck

I would start with the company you are least interested in and work your way up toward the interview for your "dream" job. You might also consider blasting past all the interviews by going to a placement agency (a reputable one where the employer pays the fees, not you). My experience with agencies is that you can test the waters and gain experience...the pay is pretty good, too. The last two times I've had to re-locate, I've gone this route with GREAT success. An agency will also help you polish your resume and skills, and provide you with interviewing tips. Being a temp-to-hire gives you a variety of benefits and flexibility. Good luck!

first of all forget about not getting that job. how many people have you seen in the job force that just don't care. you seem like a person who cares. just go in there let the interviewer do most of the talking, don't fidget, look at the interviewer straight in the eye and answer his questions honestly.in the end shake their hand and thank them for the interview that will cause them to remember you be polite and straight to the point. show that you are enthusiastic about the job.have a neat and well typed resume even if it's only scouts or school clubs or experiences. look on the Internet about making a resume. make sure that you bring all the dates phone numbers and other information in case you have to fill out an application put them in a folder neatness counts

You need to start thinking more positively. Looking for a first job is hard enough, but you are putting unneccessary pressure on yourself.

Have you ever heard of self-fulfilling prophecy? If you go into interviews with the attitude that you are going to make mistakes and look stupid, it is very likely that it will happen.

Think about your things you like about yourself and things that you do well so you can get a little more confidence. It is normal to be nervous in interviews. Maybe you should practice some things that you are going to say.
