4. Because of the expense the project seemed impossible.

> The thing with this sentence is: should "expense" be plural or singular? My guess with this is it should be plural: "Because of the expenses, the project seemed impossible."

7. Women's schools first appeared in the 1820; however Mount Holyoke, the first women's college, did not open until 1837.

"Women's schools first appeared in the 1820s; however, Mount Holyoke, the first women's college, did not open until 1837."
or why not use 2 sentences?
"Women's schools first appeared in the 1820s. However, Mount Holyoke, the first women's college, did not open until 1837."

10. Sad movies interest me depressing books do not.
"Sad movies interest me; depressing books do not."
Or split it into two sentences.

11. Our attorney will have to subpoena the landlord because he will not testify.

This sentence could be considered wrong because the subject of the sentence (the noun doing the action) is the attorney. But it is the landlord who will not testify, so you're using "he" as the pronoun for the landlord. This can be unclear to the reader if he/she does not know the meaning of landlord, subpoena, and testify.
"Because the landlord will not testify our attorney will have to subpoena him."

I can't do your homework for you, but I will tell you that there are errors in most of them. Number 2 looks right, and I am pretty sure 11 is right. Pay attention to commas in several. One of them should be two separate sentences....
If you put in the time and effort to learn this stuff, it will help you all through school. It's something you will actually use in the real world, as well.
