i gotta say it would not be the worst thing we would finally have perfect calls no more could we fight over if it were a strike or a ball

No way. Baseball should never decrease the role of the umpires. They are just as big a part of the game as the players themselves. Human error and the occasional mistakes - they do get most calls right - are just part of the game for both umps and players. I personally also like the fact that you get different umpires with different strike zones. The umps have a personality on the field that you couldn't get with an electronic device.

I think we should keep the umpires, but still allow the option to view an instant replay. Now, with only umpires, you can't challenge a call, and half the time you aren't 100 percent sure the umpire is correct, but it's still very helpful to have an umpire. If we added the instant replay option, you can have 2 different perspectives, instead of one. I think we should do both! =]

Well I think when the technology is there this will obviously happen but we are not really close to that. I would say in 15 to 20 years there will only be 1 umpire left on the field.

Umpires are just part of Baseball. In fairness, I don't like instant replay in Football either. Just imagine how long baseball games would be with replay in what is already the longest season in terms of games in professional sports.

too many nuances, a machine couldn't possibly understand. You're going to have a computer recognize a balk? Understand when to call in an infield fly? Recognize and call interference (look at replays of the Ed Arbrister bunt play in game 2 of the 1975 World Series)?

I think there should be a video review on home runs. It is extrmely difficult to get the HR's near the foul poles called correctly, or the balls that fans may or may not have reached over and grabbed. other than that, not machines or review.

I think thats a horrible idea. Besides, how can Lou Pinella go crazy and argue with a machine?
