i'm partial to peach.
she's my favorite, but if you want someone good, try out fox or keep it classic with mario.
fox might be a liiiiiiittle too advance since he has weapons and stuff.
but it's really about who you like. do a practice run with each character, see who you like best, get used to the weapons and moves and decide for yourself :)

mario is the best for beginners (thats what i think) because his attacks are easy to use, and he can stay on the field for about 250 damage.

Pikachu. He's got a long range attack, can jab close enemies, and if you can't get away, press down + B to get lightning from the sky.
