I think advertisers are trying to appeal to blacks and other minorities with this type of ad. However, it only offends people and does not entice anyone to buy their product. I wish advertisers would realize they are making it harder for blacks and others to overcome these stereotypes. Good Question.

You know what is really sad but true? That you do not see the positive images of African Americans on television...because I do.
I wish you would have provided an example, because I am sitting here scanning my brain, and can not think of a single commercial where African Americans are singing and dancing- unless its some cell phone commercial where their product doubles as a mp3 player, and I believe everyone is singing and dancing in those commercials.
Now don't get me wrong, while I appreciate your zeal for posting this question to spur on thought about outdated images of African Americans and their portrayal in the media...this question "sounds" a bit misguided.
I do not believe that AAs portray a "Bojangles image". And you too are empowered, you can contact advertising agencies and voice your complaint. You can contact the product's company, and write a letter explaining your disdain of these images.
And please take heart...there are equally empowering images of African Americans on television as well.

"Bojangles" was the nickname of one of the greatest tap dancers ever. Bill "Bojangles" Robinson was his name and he was one of the few Black performers who appeared in "white" movies. He once did a dance scene with Shirley Temple, which actually caused some controversy. Dance was one of the few ways that Blacks integrated society, and made themselves successful. Just some thoughts.

Well, they shouldn't NOT dance simply because there used to be a stereotype surrounding the black dancing image. They should just dance away, who cares? Racists are going to be racists whether black people are dancing in commercials or not.

Quit whining so much. All races and cultures are stereotyped on television to a certain degree. Are all white people upper middle class, married home owners? No. But that is how the media portrays them.

Unfortunately, they are paid a lot of money to do so, that is why they appear in those types of commercials.
