could someone please explain how someone thinks, "Hey, let's just spend billions of dollars more than we have every year, that's a good idea!"

and where are we getting this money that we don't have? who lends it to us and haven't they figured out, "hmm... it doesn't look like they are worried about giving that money back to us."

Because, for the most part is HAS worked and they can get away with all the deficit spending. THEY don't have to pay it back and people, foreign governments, Soc. Sec. just keep buying bonds to finance the debt.

We haven't faced a crisis YET so they'll continue to enact more spending on crap we don't need and keep borrowing money to fund it.

It's always easier to spend someone elses money when you aren't responsible for anything. They are selling this country right out from under us........their typical answer is to raise taxes. From what I've seen....they're a bad credit risk and I don't want them handed any more money till they can "tighten their own belts" for a change. They waste more money and have their nose into way too many projects they don't have the means to meet. I bet if you handed the budget to any housewife (or average guy) she'd find plenty of ways to cut the spending. Need and want. They have those things very screwed up. Time they get knocked back to the basics and have a little dose of reality. I was always told you have to spend money to make money but they've gone overboard.

The average American spends 108% of their income every year. The average American has $12,000 in credit card debt.

Americans wallow in debt. We love it more than sex and violence. Why would our representatives in government be any different?

Don't get me wrong, I don't approve of our government putting us $9 TRILLION in debt. I think we ought to hang every single one of them, from both parties. All I'm saying is that our government is "of the people, by the people, for the people", so why would you expect them to manage money any better than the average American?

It does "work": it helps the politicians get re-elected by giving out tax-funded (stolen) goodies to people who vote for them. What would make anyone think they're interested in anything other than that, like how their grandkids will pay back the loans?

Edit: wmcritter's dead wrong....we go into debt PAYING for the sex and violence. NOTHING beats sex and violence on a Friday night! Nothing.
