An MFM doctor, or perinatologist, is a doctor that deals with high risk pregnancy. This may be a woman with a history of pregnancy loss, pre-eclampsia, diabetes or pre-existing health problems like Lupus or kidney disease.

They also deal with prenatal diagnosis of birth defects with testing such as ultrasound and amniocentesis. Also, any health conditions that arise during the pregnancy such as isoimmunization are dealt with through these doctors.

They do no specialize in fertility. Those doctors are called Reproductive Endocrinologists.
