Speaking as a college professor, I think it's a good idea to have students periodically evaluate their teachers. Now I'm sure there will be a few who don't give an honest assessment, but most probably will.
Besides, if you've been doing your job as a teacher and feel confident in your abilities, then you shouldn't be afraid to let students voice their opinions. Who knows, perhaps they'll offer something constructive that will help you improve. This has often happened with me, and I've integrated several of the students' ideas into practice over the years.

It really depends on the teachers attitude about being evaluated and the purpose of evaluation in the first place. If the purpose is to improve teaching, then evaluation from a principal or a student really doesn't matter. Obviously, principal's seem to be in a little better position to evaluate teachers with the theory that they have been educated to evaluate and help improve the teacher. However, student evaluation can help improve teaching and could be used as a second opinion or evaluation of the teacher since principals can't see everything no more than students can. What students evaluate should be constructed so that instruction is improved. Most good teachers do their own evaluation from student input. For example, a good teacher constinately evaluates input form the student

I don't think it's illogical. I think it makes more sense at a college level, or even high school. It's important to take students' opinions into account when planning everyday activities and lessons at the elementary/some secondary levels, but some students may just not want to do any work. If that's the case, they're going to have negative opinions of teachers and school in general. That kind of feedback isn't helpful. If a student were to make a wise, constructive suggestion, a teacher should definitely listen... it may give them ideas about how to teach their students better and connect with them on their level.

First of all, I don't believe that giving feedback to teachers is more damaging to the students (Please list your sources). If the student wants, he can absolutely sing paeans for the teacher in the feedback. I also believe that teachers deserve respect, but giving the respect should not be forced on the students. I remember many teachers from my school days, I still respect with my whole heart. And many I thought could have improved, giving them feedback might have helped at that time.
Questioning rather than accepting is a much better way to receive knowledge. The teacher himself is a life long student in the art of teaching. Therefore he should take the remarks from the students constructively and teach himself to be more helpful to his future students.
As for the tradition, I believe, that originated because of the religion. In religion, we are supposed to learn by accepting teachings at face value. Since in the ancient times the teachers were basically sadhus, the tradition must have originated then.

I think it's important that teachers are evaluated by students at the University level. Often those teachers are not observed and the administration has no idea how the teachers are teaching.
For example, i have a HORRIBLE teacher this semester who will be getting a very negative evaluation from me. In fact, i can't believe I'm paying money for such a horrible class.
I hope that someone reads it and maybe it can make a difference.

I'm a teacher and think some of the evaluations can help and allows the teacher to see themselves as the students do. What they do with that info is up to them.
If you get a chance, go to ratemyteacher.com. I look at student's review of myself and get a big kick out of seeing what they say about my fellow teachers. The students reviews are funny in that they see some of the teachers who are "kid-friendly" as being push-overs, or the mean teacher as being a really down to earth sort of person. I don't tell my students about the site, I just cruise past it every so often and check in.

No, it is not; however the purpose of the activity should be explained well to the students before commencing . The objective should be to determine whether the teacher has been effective or not. This could serve as a tool in improving the teaching-learning process.

Recent times is when it is more required. If amybody wants to improve feedback is a must..!!
All one needs to do is leave the teachers' ego for a while..!!

lol show, dude you crack me up. the subject approximately sparring is that that's mandatory. the subject approximately getting hit is that it is not mandatory. You ever been hit interior the face? you decide on a reminder? i do no longer thats for advantageous. right this is a situation from the different day: guy throws a punch at me in sparring, i block and decide for a double leg take down. He is going down and we bypass into jujitsu Kata. We repeat this until ultimately we each and each hate one yet another and we are bored with each and every of the non-experience. If I have been hit in that situation i could have been out of cost. He has an fairly helpful jab. So, I found out extra with the help of no longer getting hit than i could have with the help of having hit. yet on the comparable time- we ought to bypass with pads and what no longer and use finished touch sparring. the comparable situation performs out the two way. So it relies upon on the circumstances, fairly. Does this answer your question?

If teacher's take the feedback constructively, then it helps improve things.
Anyone that refuses to hear criticism, even from a less educated person, is not very smart.
