Is it possible for a baby to start teething and really only have symptons at night? ie: crying, fussing. It seems like my 5 month old is very restless at night and is tossing and turning, sometimes being very fussy.

It's possible, but it is also very possible that this is your baby's "fussy period". When babies start to notice the world around them, they may become more resistant to napping during the day (they're afraid they might miss something!) and that can make them overly tired at the end of the day. My son is always pretty fussy for about half an hour before we start his bedtime routine. Luckily, the bedtime routine soothes him enough that he can fall asleep despite being overly tired.

If your baby has red, puffy gums; that is the best sign of teething. Fussing, chewing on fists and fingers and drooling can all be related to other things so those signs aren't really as reliable. If the gums are red and puffy, try rubbing them, offering a chilled teething toy or using a baby-safe mouth pain reliever.

Does your baby sleep alot during the day? perhaps they have got some daytime and nightime routines mixed up. It may also be possible that during the day the baby is too busy with other things to notice the pain from teething but at night they are front and centre on the babes mind. try a little bit of baby oragel .. and be very careful not to get it on babies tongue or all over their mouth .. put a little bit on your tongue.. it freezes quickly.

Could be that, or could be gassy. My kids only fussed with teeth durning the day. Never woke up at night in pain. Kids are always driving us crazy and keeping us questioning what the heck is wrong! :0)

Could be teething, gas, overtired etc. Do your best to cover all the basics and go from there.

Your child may be teething and if he/she is then I recommend homeopathic teething tablets that sooth and help to ease them. Also you may want to check to see if your child has colic. Check with your doctor.
