I do not know who her father is. Does anyone know what happens in this type of situation?

WOW, what a great husband you found!

You probably do need to check with a lawyer, because any man who could possibly be the father could demand a paternity test and block the adoption.

I am sure each state has different rules and regulations.
In Texas, it reads like this:
"If the biological father of the child is not involved in the preliminary part of the adoption proceedings, an attempt must be made to locate him before the adoption can be finalized. Usually, this is accomplished by publishing a notice in the leading newspaper in the county in which he resides. If he cannot be located, the adoption still can be completed as long as this notice requirement has been met."

I have seen notices in the paper addressed to "Unknown father of ______"

The point of seeing an attorney is to make sure everything is done legally and above board - you certainly don't want the biological father coming in later and demanding rights.

Good luck!

What do you mean you don't know who her father is? Could you limit it to say 10 donors or what? Some guy out there has a child, and he does not even know about it. I appreciate your husband's gesture, but do you not think your daughter will some day wonder who here real father is.

Talk to an attorney, but I believe it involves publishing a notice in the newspaper of the town where the biological father would most likely be located.

Congrats on your husband's desire to adopt. That's wonderful. :)

Agreed about the lawyer, but I think since you're unsure as to the child's father, it won't be too difficult for your husband to adopt him or her. That's wonderful and congrats :)

All you have to do is say the father is unknown or that he is the father and just have his name added to the birth certificate. who did you say the father was on the birth certificate if you said the father was unknown just tell them that he is the father seeing how he wants to adopt him anyways

As long as there is no father on the birth certificate then it should be relatively easy. Ask at your local court house about the papers you will need to fill out and submit to court.

As long as no one has signed the birth certificate then you should be fine.
