It's all scripted. You still have to have athletic skills though.

OK here is the thing.
The best way to put it is this: Pro-Wrestling is PREDETERMINED.

You cannot call it outright fake because there are many moves that they perform that take extreme athletic ability. Also you just don't fake picking up a 400 lb man.

But most punches are pulled, many moves are not done to the full extreme. And really if you think of it... no matter what condition these people are in, if they were to really go out there and beat the living crap out of each other the way it appears that they do then you could only have about one wrestling show a month because the rest of the time they would be healing.

But yes it is not real sport because it is predetermined even though a lot of what they do is very athletic.

I'm sure a lot of the moves, etc. are real, however, if you watch closely you can see a lot of acting (most of it bad acting) goes on too. It looks to me like the matches are decided beforehand and the wrestlers have to try to make it look like they are trying to win, even when they know the other guy is going to. WWF has turned to a big time soap opera in the last few years. When the owner was asked in a personal interview he said he would do whatever it took to get an audience. Although wrestling has always been a little iffy, it has gotten really bad. Now it is mostly for the show, not for the sport.

No easy answer to this one. The results of matches and the feuds, rivalries, and other plotlines are almost entirely scripted. The actual flow of a match from move to move is largely improvised, from what I understand. Mostly, punches, kicks, and other blows are pulled to prevent injury, but being dropped to the mat, or having someone leap onto you from the top rope, is still gonna hurt and take a lot out of you. Most of the blood you see is the result of wrestlers cutting themselves with hidden razor blade fragments, but wrestling also a higher injury rate than most ordinary sports.

So, is wrestling real or fake? I'd have to say both. Or neither. Or somewhere in between.

It all depends on what aspect of the business you're talking about. as far as what goes on in the ring, that is 99 percent real. there is the occasional swerve where the wrestler does something that is not scripted and shocks everyone, but other than that, yes, it is fake. as far as injuries. those tend to be real. to think that doing what they do 300 nights a year and being injury free is wishful thinking. they fall wrong, they land punches, but their real job, besides entertaining the crowd, is to protect their opponent. there are instances where the guys in the ring really do hate their opponent for some reason, and they will try to take them out for real, as JBL and the Blue Meanie did at the first ECW One Night Stand PPV. Another thing I wanted to add is that They Coreograph the matches ahead of time, and have a set time limit they follow. to make sure they stay on the same page, they will talk to each other and the ref (who is also time keeper). They are usually talking during slow parts of the match, like headlocks, sleeperholds, and anytime they are fighting in the corner

Winning and losing is pre-decided. Head punches are pulled. Body punches are often real. These guys are acrobats and stuntmen who are trained in how to fall, absorb blows, and moves like clothelines are usually telegraphed. It is very tough but done as close to the edge as possible; the art is to make it super intense and live to talk about it afterwards. 99% of the time, the top performers do a good job at this. But, like everything in this capitalistic world, the bottom line is to put the people in the seats and make the promoters/owners much money!!!!!

I would say scripted is a more accurate description of wrestling. The moves and physical nature of it are real, but they are all choreographed. The wrestlers know in advance who is going to win and how much time they have in the ring..the rest is up to them to entertain the crowd. They proactice their matches in advanced so they know what the other is thinking and how they will react when moves are applied.

It's a mix. I don't know the exact ratio.
Alot of the bumps are real, there's no way to fake a missed Swanton bomb from 15 feet up, for example.
But most of it is predetermined, match outcomes, how it's going to end, things like that.

Half and half! Everything is acting so it's not real! They know who is goig to win even before the matches start. Some blood is real some of it is not. Sop you can say it's real but its not! Its entertainment so it only entertains people. People say its like a soap opera and yeah it is like a soap opera cause there is a lot of drama.

the wrestlers themselves are crazy tough, but the matches are all coreagraphed* they do get hurt, but when they punch and do all that fancy stuff its all fake. like they have a little sharp razor attached to their thumb that they'll use to cut theyr eyebrow with during a match to make blood etc. watch some ufc or any mixed martial arts program and youll see instant difference thats the real stuff.

The matches are choreographed and predetermined but the injuries, traveling, lack of rest, back stage politics, passion, desire and love of the wrestling business is real.
