WASHINGTON - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton told the nation's leading gay rights group in an unpublicized speech that she wants a partnership with gays if elected president.

Clinton also said she opposes the "don't ask, don't tell" policy regarding gays in the military that was instituted during her husband's presidency.

The question isn't to start an argument, but to start a discussion. I've served w/ gays while in the Marines and they aren't tolling for a piece of a** as some would think. They could care less who dropped the soap as well, just pick it up when finished , you 're not in the joint . Come outta the gutter people.

It makes no difference. Every soldier, both men and women, are serving their country the same as the next guy...who cares about sexuality!

I served with some who were. Obviously, they weren't telling, and if I'd asked, I would SUPPOSEDLY had to report them. So when and if we talked about relationships, we talked in hypotheticals.

It didn't bother me whatsoever that they were there. They did a MUCH better job in their job than I would have (I was Admin.), and they were VERY professional - more so than many of the sexist guys I worked with.

Of course, I didn't treat them as if their sexuality were an aberration or anything silly like that, and I think they appreciated that someone would actually treat them as the HUMAN that they are.

I think the "don't ask, don't tell" policy is silly. Of course, I also don't think talking about sex at ALL is appropriate in the workplace. I think they should just let people be - when working in a team, like the military, you often become a family, and unlike so many heterosexual interactions that I've seen, homosexuals just don't try to hit on their "family members".

I also served (Vietnam) and I served with gays. I know a gay soldier saved my life. Gays are not interested in straight men. They are no threat to anyone in the military. It didn't bother me at all and it's a silly policy. How anyone came up with the idea that gays are out trolling for straight men---or that a straight man can be changed to gay by serving with gay soldiers is beyond my comprehension. You're either straight or you're not. Of course-I'm a little suspicious of bi-sexuality. I could absolutely be wrong, but I suspect most people who claim to be bi are just gays who haven't come out---but that's a personal theory, not a fact.

Do you think people in the military don't know that they're likely serving with someone who is gay?

One often hears stories of the old days where gay men would elect to serve their country, out of some delusion that "it would make a man out of them" and they would be able to go on and live their lives as happy heterosexuals...

I wouldn't care, more to the point would they mind serving with me?

Even though I do not support homosexuality, I think there are worser things than having a gay or lesbian serve in the armed forces. As long as their sexuality isn't hurting anyone, why should I matter. But still, if I was in the armed forces and knew someone who was gay, I be more afraid of getting hit on by them then getting killed.

I would rather serve my country & protect my freedom with someone that would do the same for me. It doesn't matter if they are gay, wht/blk, old/young, whatever...
Trust is a very important matter in the military, especially when it comes down to you, your battle buddy, & the enemy.
& Why should it matter if the person in front or behind of you is gay? If the thought of some guy looking at your butt when he's behind you bothers you; than what the hell should I think when a guy is behind me?

yes why not. if im in the foxhole or in a defensive position im not going to be worried about gay sex. just about being shot by the enemy and as long as the people im fighting with are good at their jobs id feel safe.

the argument is and has always been that a gay person only thinks about sex and they think that a gay person will try and rape them.
little do they know gay people are very picky and would not be interested in sex in that position. people need to open their eyes as see the truth.

I really don't see the big deal. I was USAF for 10 years and I did an excellent job and have been awarded numerous medal and awards. My husband retired after 30 years and he was exemplary. He achieved the rank of CMSgt and had been a training instructor. Work is not about sexuality unless you are a hooker!

My old friend is a homosexual and served in the Air Force in the first Iraq War. He told me that there are a decent deal of homosexuals in the military. Why should it be an issue?

Yes and I did serve with many soldiers who were gay. Same as non-gays most were good at their jobs some weren't.
