The book is Tales of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. It was published in 1906. It is a first edition hard back and is in fair shape for being over 100 years old. I'm thinking of selling it and am wondering how to go about finding out its value, where to sell it, etc. Anyone with any ideas or help here?

www.bestbookbuys.com compiles inventory of a variety of online book dealers, including the big ones like half.com, powells, alibris and abebooks. You can see what other people are trying to sell their copies for.

ebay has a feature that will email you when a listing that meets your criteria is listed, so you don't have to check every few days. This way, you can see what things actually sell for, not just the asking price. You can also search the last 30 days of their auctions to see what has sold recently.

Old books can be very valuable, or practically worthless. It depends on condition and availability, and, of course, demand.

Check it out on www.bookfinder.com. That's where rare book dealers post their books for sale. Be sure to match the publisher, date, binding, etc. as closely as possible. Condition is quite important in pricing antiquarian books.

Go to an antique dealer probably one that just deals in books, if you don't know any in your area then search on the web, better still you could always contact Christies in London and see what they say.
