Depending on what you want to do/willing to do. Many bootstrap large companies have started for under $10k. IBM is a prominent example. If you are asking about franchising/whatever I would recommend vending as a viable option. There are several cheap vending machine options- Vendstar is one... they have a website (Vendstar.com) and although it looks cheasy ( I can't stand the website) it's a cheap viable business.
I have two friends that do this in the metro Boston area for over 4 years and they do this themselves for about $10-12k per month... GRANTED, they have a lot of machines, do all the work- adding product, emptying the machines, etc. but it is a stable business that is not a hard sell overall.

I just started with a company called Send Out Cards. It's an on-line greeting card company and markets to small business owners and professionals.
The system allows you to send real cards (they have over 8,000 cards to choose from). You can set it up to send on a specific date (anniversary, birthday, etc.) and even a series of cards.
For example, a person may setup a campaign to send a 'nice to meet you' card immediately, then a card every other month. This helps the business owner/professional stay in touch with their customers and prospects.
You can become a license reseller of this system and make money every time one of your customer sends a card. You also make money for training them on how to use the system.
Send out cards was started in 2002. There's still a lot of people that haven't heard about them, so there's a lot of potential.
Contact me if you want to learn more. I can also show you how the system works.
