I am a new mom and have never flown with a baby before. (and will need to do so this May) I have a two questions. How do I bring a car seat/stroller on a plane? Or another idea I'm considering (if they do this) is to not bring my car seat and stroller, and once I get to my destination, rent a car with a car seat. So my second question is do car rental places supply car seats?

I would bring your own car seat, so you know for a fact that it is up to standards and safe. If you are going to hold you baby on the flight you can check your car seat as luggage, they put a big plastic bag on it to protect it and it comes out with the regular luggage. Your stroller they will take at the gate and will fold up and will have it waiting at the exit of the plane when you get off. They do it with wheel chairs as well. They will put a tag on it and the stewardess should take it and fold it for you. One other thing is to make sure your baby has something to suck on as the plane is taking off and landing to help the ear pressure. (bottle, pacifier ect.) Good luck.

Hey there first congratulations on the new baby! When flying you can bring a stroller all the way up to Boarding and they will store it for you in the cabin and when you exit you pick up on the ramp. If you bring the car seat on the plane they will charge you for an additional seat if that is what you want they will let you do that. If you will be holding her then I suggest you check it in at Check In they will put plastic on it tho its kind of a pain, but do-able. Most rental places do have car seats; however they are always kind of worn out and w/ a newborn you might feel more confident with your own. Good luck and I hope this helps some.

First go to the doctor and ask if you can give your baby a little bit of tylenol for the flight because she might expirience some ear ache because of the altitude and you might not have a very smooth flight. Second you need a car seat for a baby usually but I recommend you call the airline. Lots of car rentals do rent car seats like$10 a day or more so see if you end up loosing cost wise. The stroller you leave at the gate and they store it in the plane when you get to the destination they have them already out waiting for you with a tag that identifies it. You have to save the copy in case they loose it.

You can bring a stroller up to, but not on, the plane. The staff will stow it in the cargo hold last.

You can, and should, bring your car seat if you buy her a seat (which, for safety and sanity sake, you should do. Make sure the seat has an airline approved sticker -- they will look. Your baby is much safer strapped in than in your lap. If the plane drops suddenly due to turbulence, the baby will fly out of your arms (you can't hold tight enough, and you don't know it is coming) and smash into the low ceiling. If you choose not to buy the extra seat (it costs less for infants, so ask specifically), there is an inexpensive ($20-30) harness you can get. It is like a soft carrier that buckles your baby to you on a very short teather. These can be hard to find, and you may need to order one online, so don't wait until the last minute.

Call the rental car company. Some have seats, some don't. I would bring mine because who knows how new/safe/clean theirs are, and they might not really have one when you get there.

Make sure you bring extra diapers. Remember those poor JetBlue folks on the runway for 11 hours?

Also, babies cannot pop their ears on demand, so the pressure may make your baby cry. Plan to nurse, give pacifier, etc. Sucking will relieve that pressure.

Yes to taking your own stroller, just hand it to them right before you get on the plane & it will be waiting when you get off. I even did that with a double stroller! Regarding the car seat issue, check the price of a car seat rental vs buying one when you get where you're going. Sometimes you can get a much newer seat for less than the cost of renting per day (as long as you can get it to the airport you're arriving at), then you can ship it home or donate it or whatever. I have given my kids Benadryl to help them relax a bit more.

Yes they do supply car seats. When you are flying you can take the stroller right up to the gate and then they take it and when you get off the plane your stroller will be waiting for you as soon as you get off the plane. I worried myself sick the first time I flew with my daughter and it was all for nothing she did great. Everytime I have flown I have given her a little decongestent to make sure her ears don't get plugged as this can be very painfull. It also helps during take off if your baby can be sucking (nursing, drinking a bottle or soother) this helps there ears. Try and relax and I am sure you will do fine and if you baby cries too much who cares you will never see those people again! Good luck and enjoy your trip.

To be guaranteed the chance to bring your carseat onto the plane you will have to buy a seat for your child. Children under 2 can fly free in their parents seat, or most airlines offer a child under the age of 2 a seat at half price. I've taken my chances and not bought a seat before. One time there were enough empty seats on the plane that they let me bring my carseat on for free, but other times the flight was full and I had to check it and carry my child. The stroller you will have to check. I've also had good and bad luck with that. They are really rough, one stroller I took one time came through with no problems, another time to handle bar was damaged--and they won't pay for it. Car rental companies (especially the big name ones) have carseats that you can rent for about $10 per day, but they are limited in number so you have to make sure that you will have one guaranteed as part of your reservation.

You will have to check the stroller in and will most likely use the car seat on the plane. Keep the pacifier or at least the bottle close, it will help when his/her ears fill up and need to pop. If they dont pop then the baby will get extremely fussy. Remember even when you aren't to try to remain calm. Chances are the baby will cry and get fussy. Good luck

car renatls dont supply car seats, if you carry car seat on plane you have to buy a extra ticket for baby but you can put the car seat where the luggage goes and just hold baby in your lap and dont have to buy a extra ticket, and then when you go to renta car you have to seat already with luggage
