I would reboot into safe mode and back up critical data if you haven't already done so. Then use your recovery disk to completely re-install windows. Just stick it in the drive and press a key to boot from CD when asked.

If you don't have a cd you might have a recovery image on your hard drive. If so during boot up, and for just a few seconds, an option to boot and restore image should be available.

The only sure way to get rid of a trojan that you've had for two months is to format and start again. Just get better software, well better than Norton anyway.

I use AVG its free and strikes me as being just as good. See my site for a link to it and other free stuff.

How did you find one large enough for your PC? I cannot usually find them that large.

Okay okay thats a bad joke.

Seriously now... I have had this problem before but it was my Laptop drive...

Here is what I have done in the past...

Take the HD to another machine, install it as the 2nd HD. Do not run anything or open any files on that 2nd drive. Simply start up the Antivirus software on that machine and tell it to clean that drive all folders. Only thing it will not do is clean boot sector virus on that drive. However, usually if you have boot sector virus your machine doesnt boot once infected. Be sure to do Antispyware cleanup on it too. Since you really dont know if it is a spyware of a virus that is causing the problem.

Good Luck!

Wow, first of all if you are connected to the internet get off because you are probably getting attack. I would try a sytem restore. Go to the start menu and click programs and then assessories then system tools and finally system restore and it will tell you to restore to an earlier point. I will try one at least a month back and see if that works. If that works you need to get a firewall for you pc you can download one for a trial basis at download.com if the system restore don't work I would got to best buy or preferably Fries electronics or any places that sales software and get a virus protection software and load it on to you pc and let it go to work. Most virus protection cd will boot up the pc if not you have to change your boot sequence in the Bios.

Best to re-install the operating system after completely wiping the disk. Most people won't do that though....

try a search for Trojan Hunter, IceSword or other antivirus products. Http://housecall.trendmicro.com might scan and clean the trojan.

it really depends on what trojan you're referring too.... do you have the name?

If you already have Norton on there, I would suggest starting up in Safe Mode, and the running a full disk scan.

I recently had something on my system that was annoying more than anything, but it, too, killed off access to my anti-virus apps. The one I had was logo1_.exe. Starting in Safe Mode allowed me to get the anti-virus to run, and nuke the 4600 instances of it on the system.

well it sounds like your only resort is to reformat your hard drive. try to copy any programs and files you want to keep first. reformatting will erase everything, then you have to reinstall windows. good luck!
