Primarily by people I never knew that gave their lives for ideas, ideas that allow me to be who and where I am today. Their acts were sacred which is why so many of us take such great exception to the behavior of cowards and crooks that pervert that sacredness. People like most politicians.

When I was a little boy, my little terrier dog saved me from grave injury - perhaps death - when I was attacked by a maddened cow with long horns. She jumped up and grabbed the cow by the nose and hung on, despite the cow trying hard to shake her loose and banging her against the ground, long enough for me to get away. The dog was beat up, but survived and lived to a ripe old age.

There have been many more unselfish acts done for me since then. I think the most unselfish ones stem from my wife's ongoing love. Imagine a wife who is perfect in every way - from physical love and intellectual companionship to gourmet cooking, cleaning, laundry and all the other chores. She's a published writer, too, but she gave up a lot to become a "housewife". I love her. God bless her.

I'm sure the easy answer is Jesus, but that aside, I recently finished law school and couldn't afford the bar exam fees due to having moved out of state, etc.. A friend of mine, without any prompting or anything told me to sit down at the computer and register immediately and that he would pay for it. What an amazing friend.

Well, besides the atonement of Christ and birth from my mother, plus all of the money and effort my parents put into me (unbelieveable how much parents sacrifice!) . . . my brother got me a laptop when I really needed it for college. That was before he was making much money, too. I know he sacrificed for that and it was really sweet of him. He's always doing sweet things like that.

I was forgiven...the fact is when you do something wrong and you are all worried about getting caught, you just have to admit that you did it and everybody will forgive you.
