Depending on the version of Windows you are running, you may be able to use the System Restore option. If you open this up, you can take a look through a calendar, and recover to a synch point possibly as far back as the initial install. If you dont have the Sys Restore, then no, you cant do this without a disk and would need either the system restore from the OEM or the Windows install disk.

Edit:

Vincent is correct. Doing this may cause more problems than you have right now. I have seen it where the changes do not get rolled back completely, and re-installing some software can get screwed up from it.

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ System Restore.

Go the oldest date as Restore Point..

Do a scan disk

Then Open C:
All folders will be displayed.. Arrange the folders by Date.
(your WindowsXP updates should remain & C:/ windows should not be deleted ))
Delete all programs and folders later to the SR date.
Clear RecycleBIN.

Now Download AdvancedWindowsCareV2 Personal from
http://www.iobit.com. Run all programs.
Ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com
Wise Registry Cleaner from www.wisecleaner.com
Also Disksweeper Free2.
Antivirus/antispy pgms from www.grisoft.com
One more Antispy SPYBOT
Kerio Personal Firewall
Last but not least FireFox browser from www.mozilla.org//Firefox.
Hope all these pgms will keep your Computer in fine
working condition.

Not unless the system initialization is on another partition of the hard drive.

A system restore only restores modifications to the operating system and any programs that request a checkpoint. It would not get rid of any adware programs that may be in the system.

Windows restore shouldnt be used to try and get your pc back to its origianal state, you will more than likely have more problems than you had. If you dont have a restore cd from when you purchased the pc, then your only option would be to purchase a copy of XP.....
