I have a question about the way they run. They lean forward and the have their arms behind them, sort of like they're going so fast that they can't move they're arms forward. Does it save energy by not having to pump your arms?

From what I understand, it's a way to represent speed and stealth, as pumping your arms would look weird (to Japanese people) and sometimes they are not only running but leaping and hiding weapons

in real life, natural arm movement actually helps with speed (e.g. if you try walking/running without swinging your arms, you actually slow yourself down.)

but it's manga/anime world, and i think they are ninjas, they run very fast and light anyway, so they don' neeed their arms. I think the way they run in the anime almost look like they are flying, or could leap into the air any minute.

It's so they go faster to pump there arms would slow them down and moving thou the trees you would hit your arms on a tree or something.Hope that helps. If it don't who cares it's funny how they run!lol.

This is a running style used in a lot of anime. I think it is used to show speed and fluidity.

most likely it's to speed up, just like when you duck your head when riding a bike.
